ABSTRACT

The term convivencia is a Spanish word that expresses the dynamic and interactive concept of living harmoniously in human groups, the art of living together. As with any discipline, it demands various competencies (Grado, 2016) with optimal results only available where training and cultivation of these is provided. Hence, the act of convivencia in itself is not sufficient; the active sharing of space and time must be complemented with intentions, actions and forms of interpersonal interaction that produce and affect the collective climate of relationships and the affective and emotional well-being of individuals to produce satisfaction or unhappiness. Convivencia must therefore be fostered and worked upon as a preventive tool, in order to decrease opportunities for violence and abuse.
