ABSTRACT

When maize (corn) is harvested on the ear, the corn sheller is used to remove seed (grains or kernels) from cobs, and usually also to separate cobs and pieces of cobs from the shelled seed.

Place in Conditioning

The sheller is a pre-conditioning machine, used early in maize seed conditioning operations. When ear corn is delivered to the conditioning plant, shelling is usually in this sequence of operations:

1. From receiving, the ears go over a picking belt where operators remove ears which have diseased, rotted, or offtype kernels.
