ABSTRACT

This chapter presents key findings from the analysis, focusing in particular on corporate governance and management systems, emissions reporting and performance. It discusses the wider findings and implications of the research for corporate practice and for public policy. The principal aim of this research was to develop a comprehensive understanding of how companies manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a part of their broader approach to managing the risks and opportunities presented by climate change. Most companies have developed the management systems and processes necessary to manage their GHG emissions and related business risks effectively. The majority of companies covered by the survey provide some information on their emissions. Given that many companies use emissions intensity measures as the basis for assessing their emissions performance, it is instructive to look at these measures more closely. Most large companies have established basic management systems and processes necessary for them to manage their greenhouse gas emissions and related business risks effectively.
