ABSTRACT

Cost control is a very important management function in both prot-seeking and nonprot organizations.

A prot-seeking organization strives to maximize its nancial gains (e.g., sales revenue minus costs) for its owners. These gains can be sustained over time only if all stakeholders of the rm (e.g., stockholders, customers, employees, suppliers, business partners, and the community in which the rm operates) are reasonably satised. A nonprot organization (e.g., the United Way, the Ford Foundation, government agencies, educational institutions, and church organizations) seeks to maximize its service value to its respective target recipients while minimizing operations costs.
