ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses low frustration tolerance (LFT) was conceptualized as a global experiential frustration composed of specific dimensions of frustration tolerance, uncertainty, and ambiguity. LFT predicts employment as a vision for personal future and freedom as a vision for Europe. Youths’ need for freedom in Europe is in fact their request for having certainty that their goals will be fulfilled in the future, without constraints in their genuine acts. Unconditional self/other acceptance predicted health as a vision for personal future and future of Europe. Young people with low tolerance of uncertainty, ambiguity, and discomfort are focused on health and security for their own future and the future of Europe. The Council of Europe suggested that to become democratic citizens youths need to develop global competencies. The Council of Europe suggested that in order to reach the goal, youths need to be equipped with competences related to values, attitudes, skills and knowledge, and critical thinking.
