ABSTRACT

Counter intelligence covers a range of activities aimed at protecting oneself from being an intelligence target, as well as identifying and neutralizing, or at least outmanoeuvring, the opposition. Administratively, counter-intelligence protects the agenda and ensures that it is approved and implemented while preventing sabotage and subversion, sometimes involving highly questionable or destructive tactics such as intimidating or marginalizing. It can also include the cultivation of informants from the opposition and using a penetration agent to infiltrate the target group. Counter surveillance includes techniques of observation and surveillance counter measures to assist one in evading surveillance, including surveillance detection, and anti-surveillance used in eluding surveillance, such as altering ones pattern of behaviour or routes taken. In counter-surveillance, there are sites along a surveillance detection route where surveillance detection points exist locations where one can isolate the surveillance being done, places where they are forced into confined or static positions that provide limited cover.
