Chapter 3 considers how infrastructural boundary work and stewardship assist technical communication programs in building, maintaining, and assessing lean change. Addressing everyday program problems, including social media upkeep and recruiting pressures, this chapter includes a scenario that illustrates how multiple stakeholders, who may see program challenges from differing perspectives, can cooperate. This chapter offers: (1) a demonstration of how lean technical communication tenets impact program decision making, (2) heuristics for building and maintaining lean change, and (3) a framework for assessing leanness.
