ABSTRACT

Perhaps the most critical skill that a coach needs to demonstrate in SSC/OAATC is the ability to create a meaningful focus with the coachee and once having done so, to remain with that focus. In discussing this issue, I note that there are general issues which apply to both development-focused SSC/OAATC and problem-focused SSC/OAATC and issues that are specific to each. The former issues are relevant to keeping to a focus once one has been created and the latter concerns more the creation of the focus. In this chapter, I will begin by considering the latter.
