ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the important developments which underscore the primary issues and also discusses two broad categories: technology and alternative delivery. Self-directed learning is an important alternative delivery mechanism. For this approach to be successful, the employee must be motivated to learn new skills, technology, and methods. Many organizations recognize their obligation to make learning opportunities available and stimulate interest in those opportunities. Chief Learning Officers (CLOs) offered predictions on the economy, hiring rates, new technologies, and the evolution of development, among other topics. Their challenges and opportunities include millennial ascension, the value of college degrees, technology evolution, and value demanding department heads. Qualcomm is blending mobile technology with research from the Harvard Graduate School of Education Future of Learning to address the changing world of work, learning, and information. Mobile learning is among the strategies, coupled with an expanded social component.
