ABSTRACT
Metaphor in any medium is a creative act on the part of both conceiver and receiver, to think of the abstract representation, and to receive an understanding of it is, for both, essentially an act of creative imagination. Creative imagination, then, is far more than creativity, and creativity is far more than 'being able to draw a straight line' or 'rub two words together'. While the schools place increasing emphasis on standardised testing, pedagogies that encourage rote learning, and competitive outcomes, limits the creative thinkers, but impede the learning of all other students whose abilities should be extended towards creativity, no matter what their interests, intelligences, or socio-economic circumstances may be. To bring about that transformation, teachers who themselves have imaginative approaches to teaching and learning are needed, and this means that teacher education courses must also teach and emulate the necessary creative pedagogies.
