ABSTRACT

This chapter explains four components of the airline response-training program: preincident training/mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery/reintegration. Airline employees working as first responders are exposed to acute stress in the aftermath of an aviation disaster. Airline crisis response training focuses on the importance of a systematic approach when responding to traumatic situations. Airline personnel are usually the first to respond to the site of a major aviation disaster; therefore, this research specifically focuses on examining the effects of such work and the implications for vicarious traumatization among this particular population. Airline crisis response training focuses on the importance of a systematic approach when responding to traumatic situations. The Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) and defusing processes may be defined as group meetings or discussions about a traumatic event, or series of traumatic events. The CISD and defusing processes are solidly based in crisis intervention theory and educational intervention theory.
