ABSTRACT

So far, we have tried to provide a framework to understand the human phenomenon of ‘madness’ that has drawn heavily upon the evidence-based approach of modern medicine, concerned quintessentially with the humanity of Homo sapiens. This is essentially an integrative bio-psychosocial approach to life and therefore of practice, relevant to any of the fields of ‘human care’. However, before exploring the psychosocial aspects of mental disorder, we need to take a brief but serious look at the criticisms of the biopharmacological aspects of psychiatric care, especially by those who offer a mainly unidimensional approach to the care of mentally disordered people.
