ABSTRACT

Angry drivers and road rage have attracted a lot of attention from the media and general public (Deffenbacher, Lynch, Oetting and Yingling, 2001; Parker, Lajunen and Stradling, 1998; Underwood, Chapman, Wright and Crundall, 1999). This is not surprising when it is considered that high anger drivers engage in more aggressive and risky driving and experience more near misses, loss of vehicle control, infringement notices and minor accidents (Dahlen and Ragan, 2004; Deffenbacher, Lynch, Oetting and Swain, 2002). Therefore, it would appear important to understand what sorts of situations provoke anger amongst drivers.
