ABSTRACT

In today's complicated and topsy-turvy work environment, including "the world-wide economic crisis, the globalization of business, the rise of new technologies and the deep demographic shifts", businesses and other organizations constantly have to adapt to new challenges, both in terms of changing the way they function and their basic business model. To be ambushed, a surprise attack by people lying in wait in a concealed position, is one of the worst fears that people have. Most people are motivated to make long-term changes in an organization by the perceived rewards for doing so. Trust, firm belief in integrity, ability, or character of a change agent, is essential for effective organizational change. When employees feel that their leadership cannot capably implement and manage change, there is increased resistance, this being a form of self-protection. If a planned change does not consider the fact that humans are group-oriented social beings, change agents are going to run into intense resistance from change recipients.
