ABSTRACT

This chapter conceptualises the cultural economy perspective employed in this work by looking at the specific post-socialist basis of the popular economy I call the post-peasant house. I will then focus not only on protest as a reflection of the economy but also on how this political protest shapes the cultural economy. The political concept is called post-peasant integralism. Finally, I discuss the relations of historical material transformations through which the cross-cutting elements of economy and politics operate. I argue that the perspective that I refer to as the cultural economy of protest is most suitable for discussing the paradox of European enlargement as an actual societal progress and cultural trauma of post-peasants.
