ABSTRACT

The centerpiece of the research project is the Database of Modern Exhibitions (DoME) that enables detailed research into information extracted from exhibition catalogues. DoME covers as comprehensively as possible the European continent for the years between 1905 and 1915. DoME aims to store information extracted from catalogues pertaining to exhibitions that took place between 1905 and 1915 and that included modern European painters. The goal was to cover the European continent as completely as possible, as well as to include exhibitions of works by European painters that took place outside Europe. The development and adaptation of the database infrastructure, as well as the design of the database frontend, was continually informed by critical insights from the project team. Therefore, a customized set of formatting rules for DoME was developed and adopted to make the data entry as coherent and as comprehensive as possible.
