ABSTRACT

David Antony Haslam became involved with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) after being invited to apply to be an examiner as he had been awarded Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners with distinction in 1978 and Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 1989. He served as chairman of the RCGP Examination Board between 1993 and 2001. Haslam has also undertaken other roles with national organisations. This has included being a National Clinical advisor to the Care Quality Commission, and chair of the National Quality Board Quality Information Committee. Haslam has received a variety of awards. These include being appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2004 for his services and contributions to the medical and health care system. Haslam has been the chairman of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence; he was first appointed to this position in April 2013.
