ABSTRACT

In the last 20 years much has been written about the theory of social and personal education but the reality is that in many schools it is still understood to be a weekly one hour slot, often not valued by staff or pupils. In this sense it remains an adjunct to the formal curriculum and a diversion from the perceived main role of the school which is in the cognitive domain and that which is easily assessed.
