For some health researchers and professionals, purely descriptive studies ‘mean nothing’ because ‘they explain nothing.’ However, descriptive studies are powerful generators of hypotheses for possible causal relationships behind observed phenomena and they indicate where to seek possible priorities for therapeutic or preventive intervention.
