ABSTRACT

Statistics are mathematical techniques used to analyze numerical data. Sometimes, data that began in words has been converted into numerical terms. The term statistics also refers to the outcome of these mathematical techniques. When data is available for the entire population, the resulting values are called parameters instead of statistics. Statistics refers only to results that are based on the use of a sample drawn from a population, rather than data collected from the entire population. Statistics refers only to results that are based on the use of a sample drawn from a population, rather than data collected from the entire population. There are two branches of statistics: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. As the name suggests, descriptive statistics only attempt to describe the data so they can easily be comprehended. An important family of inferential statistics consists of significance tests, which help researchers decide whether the differences in descriptive statistics are reliable.
