ABSTRACT

The third design attitude represents designers’ fondness for using their innate aesthetic sense and judgement to tackle the challenges they are faced with. The philosophy which emerges allows and encourages people to use the totality of their being, not just their abstracted workplace persona as seen through flat PowerPoint presentations or 100-page reports. Following designers’ lead, those applying design attitude to their projects utilise a full gamut of senses, including their tacit knowledge, to create unexpected solutions to unexpected challenges. It’s not only that designers literally don’t mind getting their hands dirty, they appreciate the world around us in a fuller way; you may call it the 5-D way. Using all their senses is very much a part of their training and culture.
