ABSTRACT

In today’s international market, we must routinely communicate across barriers of language and culture. Even within a single country, products must overcome language barriers. Interfaces for such products, therefore, must also communicate across boundaries of language and culture. So, graphics might seem the logical choice because, as everyone knows, graphics are a universal language. Unfortunately many graphics are not universal. Yet, well-chosen and designed graphics can still help user interfaces span cultural and language barriers. This chapter shows how.
