ABSTRACT
This chapter examines the basics of experimental design and lays the foundation for the rest of the book. Section 2.1 starts with a discussion of why precision must lie at the core of any experiment-particularly experiments that involve human participants-and how this need for control affects all aspects of an experiment. In Section 2.2 the individual elements of an experiment are introduced and briefly discussed.
