ABSTRACT

Design principles have long been applied to designing products, processes and built environments. This chapter focuses on the way design principles can influence some of the ethical questions that arise in the process of creating individual careers that have an alignment between personal and organizational values. Design principles can be readily applied to design a meaningful career in a work environment that is increasingly global, complex and fast changing. One of the major distinguishing qualities of human beings is the ability to move beyond basic needs and drives, and to organize lives and workplaces around a complex set of higher principles, which is called values. The Values Wheel was designed to provide a simple way for helping individuals and teams to identify what their core values are and then find areas of shared connection to provide more meaning and alignment in their work. The Values Wheel model contains six clusters around a central core.
