ABSTRACT
Italferr develops design solutions based on principles of sustainability and adopts innovative methodologies that guarantee a holistic approach to the design and implementation stages of the infrastructure. Italferr is the first Engineering Firm in the world to have acquired the Certificate of Conformity to Regulations ISO 14064-1 for the Calculation methodology of greenhouse gas emissions caused by the construction of transport infrastructures as part of an eco-sustainable strategy. The skills and experience gained in the design of sustainable construction have led to the identification of an objective and useful tool for designing and building sustainable infrastructures: the Envision Protocol rating system. Italferr has developed the first Guidelines for applying the Envision protocol to railway infrastructures and promoting a reduction in the total amount of materials to be supplied during the construction phase, through a wider reuse of excavated materials in underground construction, which also allows an overall reduction of traffic flows for off-site transportation.
