ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on some of the key economic issues associated with developing countries’ role in international trade in products. It complements the chapters relating to structural change and to globalisation. Because it concentrates on trade in products, it does not attempt to cover the overall balance of payments (which includes trade in services as well as financial flows) and it does not aim to discuss international migration (which is important and which has significant economic and financial implications – including remittances).
