ABSTRACT

Recent years have seen striking applications of shields for urban tunnels in Japan. To realize rapid and economical construction of shield tunnels, it is necessary to develop a high performance shield system. For these demands, authors have developed a Honey-comb segmental lining system which enables one-pass lining. To make the maximum use of the Honey-comb segments, the authors developed a high-performance shield system which can shorten the tunneling time by up to 50% when compared with conventional shield systems.
