ABSTRACT
In recent years, cost reduction becomes a key word in shield tunneling. The researchers in Japan Institute of Wastewater Engineering Technology (JIWET) has been aiming at cost reduction of shield tunneling since 1999. In this paper, a segment with steel-pipe-inserted ring joints which is developed by a joint research between JIWET, Taisei Corporation, Ishikawajima Construction Materials Co., Ltd. and KFC, Ltd. is considered in its practical application.
