ABSTRACT

There are 2 genera, and 2 species recognized in the WCNA: Dicer atlas pileatus, and Bufoceratias (prev. Phrynichthys) wedli. Both D. pileatus, and B. wedli are found in both the tropical and subtropical North Atlantic (Pietsch 2003f). Diceratiidae is believed to possess free-living, nonparasitic males. However no spent females or females with obvious denticilar teeth scarring have been observed. Metamorphosed females to (SL) B. wedli 23.5 cm, D. pileatus to 17.8 cm (Pietsch 2003f). No males have been observed.
