ABSTRACT

Insmallrooms,thetimedifferencebetweenthearrivalofthedirect andthereectedsoundatthelisteningpointisverysmall,usuallyonly 10-20ms.Theirinterferenceresultsinsoundcoloration,particularlyifthe reectedsoundisstrong.Toavoidcolorationearlyreectedsoundmustbe 20 dB weaker than the direct sound as discussed in Chapter 8. However, suchattenuationbysomeabsorbingmaterialmayresultinexcessivereduction of the overall acoustic energy in the room.
