ABSTRACT

The use of digital technologies influences and transforms the ways in which people interact with, explore and make sense of nature experiences, and how they communicate their experiences in private, public and education spheres. This chapter considers the use of digital narrative methodology in outdoor fieldwork to research human/nature interactions, aesthetic experiences of nature and the conceptualisation and audio-visual communication thereof. Rather contrary to research indicating that digital technology deepens the human/nature divide, this chapter draws on narrative theory and explores how multisensory ethnography and digital narratives can transform, optimise and direct (becoming) researchers’ sensorial, material and social engagement in outdoor field research.
