ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1 the concept of a linear post production workflow was introduced, and indeed most productions follow this path. Partly, this is a result of the way in which production technology has evolved, and partly it is a result of the need to use production resources efficiently to stay within budget. On most productions, any overlaps in the various stages of post production are minimized as far as possible, so that, for example, the sound editors will only start work once the picture edit has been finalized. An exception to this may be made on medium- to high-budget feature films, where the picture editors may work concurrently with the sound team so that temp mixes can be produced before the picture is locked.
