ABSTRACT

Virtual reality (VR) has been increasingly used in various industries for training and design purposes where the new staff gets a feel for the working conditions and designers can observe the impact of their design on the system and human behavior. They consist of IT components for status updates, connectivity, defined data structures and user interfaces that visualize relevant data. Tunnel industry has the potential to greatly benefit from digital twins & related business and product modelling. Digital twins simulate, visualise and optimise the tunnel construction process through real-time monitoring to increase the efficiency. This paper will focus on two aspects of tunnel construction process. One is the situation room where stakeholders can meet virtually and then monitor together the construction process in real-time. Second, virtually visualise the TBM performance in advance to have a better understanding of any future problems to come.
