ABSTRACT

Development of numerical methods for the design of foundations of different structures demand further improvement of description of strength and deformability of rocks and soils. The most complex is consideration of dilatancy of rocks and soils in this process. Dilatancy itself, found by O. Reynolds in 1985, contradicts theories of elasticity and plasticity. Until now there are no strict descriptions of this phenomenon and of its influence on mechanical properties of soils and rocks. Proposed herein is the parameter for quantitative evaluation of dilatancy at limit condition and the equation, which defines dependency of this parameter on density of soils and level of normal stresses – dilatancy law.
