ABSTRACT
The United Nations Charter of 1945 predated the existence of nuclear weapons, but in 1952 the United Nations (UN) passed Resolution 502 which set the objective of the prohibition of all nuclear weapons. The resolution had little immediate impact as the race to perfect H-bomb technology from 1950 to 1954 prevented any meaningful dialogue between the nuclear weapons states.
