ABSTRACT

First published in The Examiner, IX, 21 April 1816, pp. 247–50 under this heading in the section that appears from time to time reporting on the ‘High Life’; it is followed by a reprint of Byron’s ‘Fare Thee Well’ and an excerpt from his satiric ‘A Sketch from Private Life’, which Hunt hopes will show Byron’s essentially loving attitude towards his wife. Reprinted in Hunt, Literary, pp. 95–102. There is a linked piece that appeared after Byron left England on 22 April; see The Examiner, IX, 28 April 1816, p. 266–7, where Hunt also publishes his ‘To the Right Honourable Lord Byron, on his Departure for Italy and Greece’ (see Vol. 5, p. 129). Hunt had offered a brief notice of Byron’s wedding in The Examiner, VIII, 1 January 1815, p. 8.
