ABSTRACT

This chapter draws together lines of thinking in relation to what the early years settings need to provide to support wellbeing through the learning environment. It looks at the dual aspects of education and care for this age range, and uses Wustenberg and Schneider’s (2008, cited in Wertfein et al. , 2009: 20) seven important quality indicators for the daily care of babies and children under three as pointers for consideration as a basis for considering a rationale between high-quality care and wellbeing with this age range. The book then closes with some fi nal refl ections, drawing on some of the key themes raised for the age group and how their wellbeing can be prioritised and supported within their early years setting.
