An erotic transference is revealed in dreams bringing sexuality and intense relatedness into the sessions. The dreams are analysed in relation to Jungian theory and questions addressed include: who is the dreamer? The symbolism of imagery within the dreams is interpreted in the context of the intensifying transference. Interpretation of the dreams interests the patient and they begin to become a meaningful form of communication. The frequency of dreams increases with dreams being brought to most sessions during this phase of the work. These start with a burglar dream, followed by others that seem to represent the emerging awareness of the illness. Several of the dreams involve a figure representing the analyst and these reveal the intensifying erotic dependency in the therapeutic relationship.
