Melanie Klein was strongly encouraged by both of her own analysts, Sandor Ferenczi in Budapest, and Karl Abraham in Berlin. It was the latter, however, who gave Klein her theoretical bearings. He died in 1925, and although Abraham held views with slightly different emphases, Abraham never quarrelled with Freud in the way that Jung did. What then did Abraham teach Klein?
