ABSTRACT

The fighting in and around Küstrin occupied a central place in the history of the Reich in 1945. This episode accentuated the tensions in the German direction of the war, and led first to the removal of Himmler from active command, and finally to the downfall of the chief of staff, Colonel-General Heinz Guderian.
