ABSTRACT

Studying tourism development is a very complex field. Examining tourism and sustainability are even more complex, even though most studies ignore the most complex issues, including transport to and from the destination areas. Most studies limit their scope to a small community or a marginal region. They often regard tourism as an event taking place at a small site during a short period of time. The aim of this paper, in contrast, is to look at the whole trip and present some reflections on the sustainability of tourism in a broad sense.
