ABSTRACT

Magnetic micelles or “magnetomicelles” (MMs) have opened a new avenue for researchers owing to their simultaneous diagnostic and drug-targeting (therapeutic) applications. The present entry highlights the recent diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) advances of functional nanostructured micelles with magnetic properties. It explains the potential theranostic use of these materials and the possible future use of this cutting-edge technology in the theranostic field. These MMs possess the capability of diagnosing the delivered NPs, which may be inorganic, organic, or biological in nature. Furthermore, modification of MMs with sensing and therapeutic groups such as ligands, proteins, fluorescent molecules, and monoclonal antibodies into the theranostic nanostructure could prove beneficial.
