ABSTRACT

Possessing superior properties such as light weight, low cost, and good biocompatibility, the polymeric materials have become more and more important in fabricating micro/nano components for a broad range of applications. This entry selectively describes some key aspects relating to polymeric microcomponents for biomedical applications. Specifically, starting with some basic conceptions, the biomedical-purposed polymeric materials and microcomponent fabrication technologies including photo defining and mold defining as well as ultra-precision machining techniques are introduced. Furthermore, a case study on a micromixer in terms of its manufacturing process and mixing performance testing is presented. Finally, the main conclusions are given before the future direction of the polymeric microcomponents is pointed out.
