ABSTRACT

Visual representation of energy related data is useful to energy managers when energy management opportunities (EMOs) are analyzed and presented to wider audiences. It is hard to justify the cost of commercial software packages if an energy audit is done by employees of a facility once or twice a year. Built-in features of available spreadsheet programs such as MATLAB® and Excel® can be used effectively to analyze the data. To use such programs, energy data must be collected in a certain fashion. The correct physical parameter must be selected and measured consistently. Using the 3D graphs, collected data can be recognized and presented to justify certain EMOs. This entry uses lighting energy audits as an example.
