ABSTRACT

The overall objective of this entry is to propose a new method and mathematical model of a desiccant wheel that takes into account heat conduction through air and desiccant material and mass diffusion within the solid desiccant in the axial direction of the wheel, as well as the effect of condensation of water vapor during regeneration of the desiccant. These factors were neglected in previous research studies. To study and analyze the effect of the design parameters of desiccant wheels (such as wheel thickness, wheel speed, regeneration to adsorption areas ratio) and on the operating parameters (such as outlet air temperature and humidity ratio of the air and regeneration air temperature) on the wheel performance, a method and numerical model were developed. The proposed method and model allows designing an evaporative cooling air-conditioning system more accurately.
