ABSTRACT

The vehicle heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is not just a desirable but a necessary standard equipment of vehicles manufactured today. This system provides the cab crew, bus passenger, and ambulance patient comfort and safety by ensuring demisting inside the vehicle environment and defogging of windows in all kinds of weather. This entry is a sequel to the entries “HVAC Systems, Mobile: Physics and Configuration” (p. 909) and “HVAC Systems, Mobile: Fundamentals, Design, and Innovation” (p. 882) published in the September 2007 edition of this encyclopedia, and it provides the reader with a short synopsis of mobile HVAC system changes, innovations, and new approaches. The overview includes systems configurations, possible applications, new refrigerant with low global-warming potential (GWP), and future of mobile HVAC systems.
