ABSTRACT
This entry defines storytelling and describes its relevance to libraries in an historical context. It addresses four primary approaches to storytelling research—folklore, education, psychology, and library and information science (LIS)—and it describes many of the influential books, people, and associations related to storytelling. The entry concludes with an overview of storytelling in LIS education and some potential ways for storytelling to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by new technologies.
