ABSTRACT
Shared libraries are partnerships between school libraries and public libraries, university libraries and public libraries, community college libraries and public libraries, and any number of other combinations of library organizations. This entry will discuss the shared library as a distinct library type, outlining the major political, fiscal, management, planning, information technology, public policy, and evaluation issues. Examples of shared libraries will be described as a means of illustrating differing management models and to identify areas of the world where joint libraries are most prevalent.
