ABSTRACT
This entry gives an overview of libraries and librarianship in the United States and explores several trends that will continue to have an impact on American libraries for the foreseeable future. These trends include: network neutrality and digital rights management; recruitment and diversity of library workers; the continuing development of the Internet; Library 2.0 and beyond (blogs, podcasts and wikis); libraries and the gaming phenomenon; librarian and library worker salaries; and library advocacy and funding.
