ABSTRACT
This entry introduces theories of technology developed within the interdisciplinary field of science and technology studies (STS). Theories of technology within STS are conventionally divided into the social shaping of technology (SST) perspective, the social construction of technology (SCOT) perspective, actor-network theory (ANT), and gender and technology studies. The practice theory is emerging as a distinct line of thought and analysis.
